Raised in band
Raised polished text in band means that each line of text has its own hand-chiseled surface.
Raised text in band is executed on a hand-chiseled background to maximize the contrast between the polished raised surface and the background. A darker type of stone provides higher contrast between the hand-chiseled and polished surfaces.
The advantage of raised text in band is that it requires minimal maintenance since there is no color added that can wear away over time.
The disadvantage of raised text in band is that it cannot be applied to details that are too thin, as there is a risk of breakage. The rough surface around the text and decoration needs to be cleaned to prevent growth. Raised text in band can be difficult to see when the stone is wet (see the image example to the right).
If a polished surface has been preserved for future text, color differences may arise on the new hand-chiseled surface that has been protected from external factors/patina.
