FAQ
Here we have collected our most frequently asked questions, feel free to contact us via our chat, phone or email if you do not find answers to your questions and concerns.
1. HOW TO DO IT?
How do I order a gravestone?
Contact Edurus and we will help you develop a design based on a catalog model or a completely customized stone. The drawing and quote must then be approved by both the grave owner and the cemetery administration before production begins. We help you through the ordering process from the first sketch to delivery and installation.
Who is the holder of the burial rights and why must they approve the order?
The estate of the deceased appoints the burial rights holder. This is done by notifying the cemetery administration or the parish clerk’s office, and all the owners of the estate must be involved in the decision. As the holder of a burial right, you have rights and obligations, including the right to decide how the grave is to be decorated. The gravestone drawing must therefore be approved by all holders of the right of burial, as everyone must agree on what is to be placed on the grave.
What should I consider when ordering a tombstone?
Before you start thinking about what the stone should look like, it is a good idea to talk to the cemetery staff. There may be local guidelines at the cemetery that influence the choice of model, size and appearance. It may also be useful to look at surrounding gravestones to get an idea of how the stone will be perceived in its surroundings. Do not hesitate to contact us for advice, we combine your personal preferences and desires for the design with what is possible to implement in production.
Can I book a tombstone appointment at your office?
We help our customers by email and phone. Via our website, you can fill in a contact form or sketch request so that we can present an initial design proposal that we can discuss. If you prefer a physical meeting, it is possible to make an appointment in our showroom in Malungs Stenfabrik or contact one of our dealers. We collaborate with several funeral homes around the country that sell our products. If the order is placed via one of our dealers, please contact your advisor at the funeral home for all your questions about the tombstone.
2. DESIGN AND MANUFACTURE
What is the most durable design of a tombstone?
A gravestone made of granite is a durable and long-lasting choice. As the stone is used outdoors all year round, it is easier to keep it clean and free of dirt, moss and growth if the surface is smooth. Working with the stone’s inherent characteristics through various treatments, rather than adding paint that can wear away, is also a more durable option.
Can I change the size of the stone?
We customize tombstones according to your needs, all Edurus tombstone models are available in other sizes or modified as desired. The cost is recalculated based on the number of cubic meters and how advanced the model is.
How do I change a drawing?
If you have received a drawing from Edurus and want to make changes, email or call us and we will update the design as desired. Please state your case number (GDR or SNO number) when contacting us so we can find your request more easily. We offer up to five free drawing proposals, after which an administrative fee of SEK 500/new mailing will be added to the quote.
Where is the tombstone made?
In our factory in Xiamen, China, where there is a 700-year tradition of creating beautiful stone crafts, our stonemasons and artists work to design unique tombstones for our customers. We buy the raw material on the international stone markets and carefully select the material that is best suited to the Swedish climate.
In Malungs Stenfabrik located in Dalarna, we perform engraving on our locally produced stones in the Nordic collection and all stock stones. All gravestones that are to be text-completed or renovated are also brought here.
3. DELIVERIES
How long does it take to order a tombstone?
The time from the first drawing to the order depends on how soon we arrive at a suitable design. Once we have received a signed order, there is an additional processing time with the cemetery administration, which must also review and approve the installation of the gravestone. The delivery time from manufacture to installation/delivery varies between approx. 4-16 weeks depending on the design. For fast delivery, choose a tombstone in the same granite type and processing as presented in our catalog example.
I want to do the installation myself, can I order home delivery?
We can deliver the tombstone to a home address as long as there is space for delivery, no stairs or elevators. Please note that there are regulations regarding safe installation, if we only deliver the tombstone, Edurus does not guarantee installation.

What are the additional costs?
There is always a delivery and installation fee. The cost is specified in your quotation when we know which cemetery and grave condition it applies to as the mounting methods can vary around the country. There is also a cost for accessories and options.
When should the gravestone be paid?
Edurus generates an invoice when we receive the go-ahead from the cemetery administration that the stone is approved. There is a 20-day payment period on the invoice, the stone will be installed at the earliest when we receive full payment. If other payment options are desired, there are also offers via Svea Bank.
Can the stone be paid through the estate?
If there are funds in the estate, we can mark the invoice with the name of the estate to facilitate contact with the bank. However, the invoice must always be made out to a private individual who is responsible for the payment and the recipient of the invoice.
Can I buy a tombstone on installments?
We cooperate with Svea Bank for other payment options in addition to 20-day invoice. Once you have been granted credit, you will be offered installment options, there will be a set-up fee and an interest rate according to Svea’s terms and conditions.
5. WARRANTY AND RETURN POLICY
Is there a guarantee when buying a headstone?
Edurus offers a 25-year warranty on the headstone, provided that the stone is not exposed to external damage. The warranty covers cracks in the stone and discoloration. The warranty does not apply to dirt, candle wax or oil that has penetrated the headstone. Edurus gives a two-year guarantee on the color of a recessed painted or gilded text and decoration, i.e. that the color does not flake. Edurus gives a two-year guarantee on porcelain photographs. If the headstone is damaged during transportation, we will replace it with a new headstone.
Can I cancel my order?
A tombstone is a personalized product made to measure. Therefore, the buyer has no right of withdrawal after production has begun. Production starts when the gravestone has been approved by the buyer, the holder of the burial right and the cemetery administration. Natural color variations that are characteristic of natural stone, such as streaks, lines and marbling do not make the tombstone incorrect.
What happens if the engraving on the headstone is wrong?
Our production always follows the latest edition of the drawing, which is printed on a blasting cloth used in production. It is the buyer’s responsibility to check that the drawing is correct before accepting the order. But mistakes do happen. Even if the drawing has been carefully checked, it sometimes happens that a date or a misspelling is missed despite proofreading. Contact Edurus as soon as you notice the error and we will find a solution. If Edurus is responsible for the error, we will replace you with a new stone.
6. ASSEMBLY
Can I be present during the installation of the stone?
You are not allowed to be present during the installation of the tombstone. We have this policy to protect the installers’ working environment, but also because it is difficult to specify an exact day/time for the actual installation. The installers’ work needs to be very flexible with room for unforeseen events. We always notify you when the work is completed and attach a picture of the grave site together with your installation confirmation, so you can see what it looks like. ut.
Is there any risk that the stone will not stand securely?
Edurus guarantees that the headstone is installed in accordance with the Centrala gravvårdskommitténs installation instructions for safe installation, as well as local instructions as long as they at least comply with CGK’s regulations. Edurus gives a one-year guarantee on the installation of the headstone regarding straightness and stability.
Why does the stone feel loose when I wiggle it?
Do not touch a newly installed headstone, it is sensitive to shocks and movements. If you jolt or shake the headstone immediately after it has been installed, you will damage the installation and risk having a headstone that is no longer secure. It is perfectly normal for the stone to be jiggleable, i.e. it should be possible to wiggle it a little. The stone must be able to be lifted by the studs for a future burial or other work in the cemetery. It is part of the cemetery administration’s task to test the stability of the installation, this is done at the earliest 2-6 months after an installation.
7. TEXT COMPLETION AND RENOVATION
Why do you recommend cleaning the old text even though it is new?
Painted paint and gilding flakes easily when washed before the work on the drawing and new text. We therefore recommend that you always renovate the old text in connection with text completion. It also minimizes the risk of color differences.
How long is the delivery time for text completion?
We anticipate a delivery time of approximately nine weeks from the approved quotation and confirmed drawing to reassembly. If there is snow or frost, there may be delays until the ground conditions are favorable.
When will the invoice arrive?
The invoice is emailed out when we receive approval for the start of production, 30 days payment time.
I have a stone of my own that I want to use for a tombstone – is that possible?
In most cases, we can engrave text on natural stones, but the surface needs to be “smooth as an eggshell” for us to undertake the assignment. Send us pictures and measurements and it will be easier for us to make an assessment.
